Lot 10:
Description
This cast brass figural inkwell is modelled as a standing dromedary camel, reflecting the Mamluk Revival style popular in the early 20th century. The piece is designed with a hinged saddle lid that opens to reveal a circular ink reservoir. The body is extensively decorated with hand-chased and engraved foliate and scrollwork patterns, particularly prominent along the neck, haunches, and saddlecloth. The brass exhibits a deep yellowish-gold tone with a natural aged patina. Such pieces were frequently produced in North Africa or the Middle East as high-quality desk accessories or Grand Tour souvenirs. No maker’s marks are present. Height: approximately 12.7 cm (5 inches).
