Lot 158:
Description
This small, footed bowl is crafted from a carved, dark honey-to-chocolate brown organic material, likely horn or a similar substance, featuring intricate high-relief decoration. The exterior displays a continuous scene of imperial dragons and phoenixes manoeuvring through dense ruyi-head clouds, set above a geometric key-fret border around the foot. The interior is smooth with a circular medallion at the centre depicting a coiled dragon in relief. The underside of the base contains a recessed four-character seal mark reading Qianlong Nian Zhi, which is apocryphal for the period. The piece represents a 20th-century interpretation of classic Qing Dynasty motifs. Diameter: 11.5 cm.
