Lot 17:
Description
A Victorian-period tapered beaker of traditional sporting design, crafted from variegated natural horn. The body displays characteristic natural banding in tones of amber, cream, and dark brown. The vessel is fitted with a silver-toned metal rim and an applied shield-shaped metal cartouche to the front, featuring an engraved cursive monogram P. A distinctive feature of this piece is the inset clear glass base, a design common in 19th-century hunting and campaign cups to ensure the clarity of the beverage or for visibility during use. The metal mounts show no visible hallmarks and are likely silver plate or white metal. Height: approximately 11.5 cm.
