Lot 182:
Description
This 19th-century utilitarian vessel is constructed from a spun brass body, featuring characteristic fine concentric horizontal lines from the manufacturing process. It is fitted with a heavy-duty hand-wrought iron bail handle, securely attached to the rim with large, hand-hammered copper rivets. The tapered cylindrical form and reinforced rim suggest its use as an apple butter kettle or preserve bucket, typical of English hearth-ware from the mid-to-late 1800s. There are no visible maker’s marks. Rim Height: Approximately 8.5 inches; Total Height (including handle): Approximately 17 inches; Diameter: Approximately 12.5 inches.
