Description

A late 19th-century colonial walking cane, likely of Ceylonese or Indian origin, carved from a single piece of dense, dark ebony. The crook-style handle is skilfully fashioned into the stylised head of a bird of prey, featuring well-defined carving to the beak and eyes. The tapered shaft is embellished with multiple zones of decorative carving, including a section of vertical fluting below the collar and a traditional barley-twist spiral to the mid-section. This is a solid, non-mechanical decorative stick with no visible hallmarks or maker’s marks. Length: 34.5 inches (87.6 cm).
