Description
This antique system cane features a hand-carved bamboo root knob handle, fashioned with a dense toadskin textured motif and displaying a rich, naturally aged patina. The tapered shaft is constructed from dark-stained bamboo, characterised by its prominent natural nodes. As a classic horse measurer or jockey’s system cane, the handle pulls out to reveal a concealed measuring rule. A secondary, horizontal metal arm folds out from the top of the rule to rest atop a horse’s withers for height determination. The rule is clearly graduated with numeric increments in inches and Hands (denoted by Ha), the traditional unit for equine height where one hand equals four inches. No manufacturer hallmarks are visible on the exterior or the rule. Overall Length: 36 inches.
