Lot 193:
Description
A traditional Naruko-style Kokeshi doll by the artist Hiroshi Kakinuma, meticulously crafted from lathe-turned wood. The piece features the classic rounded head and slightly flared cylindrical body characteristic of the Naruko school from the Miyagi Prefecture. The head is hand-painted with a serene facial expression and stylised black hair accented with red pigments. The body is adorned with vibrant, hand-painted red and cream chrysanthemum blossoms, framed by black foliate motifs and horizontal banding at the shoulder and base. The underside shows concentric turning marks and bears the artist signature in Japanese calligraphy. This figurine serves as a fine example of mid-century Japanese folk art. Height: approximately 30 cm.
