Description
Various Authors. A Collection of Historical Legal Indentures, Periodicals, and Ephemera. Various Places: Various Publishers, 1829-1950. This collection comprises a variety of manuscript legal documents, early 20th-century periodicals, and financial ephemera. Primary manuscript items include a 1908 indenture between Sarah Ellen Holroyd and Richard Holroyd, featuring red wax seals and the signatures of Sarah E. Holroyd and Edith H. Wallis; a 1947 conveyance between Mary Ingham Cliffe and others and John Brown; and a 1950 further charge involving Harry Edwards, William Edwards, and Benjamin Rowland Rice-Jones. The 1908 document includes a registration stamp from the West Riding Registry of Deeds at Wakefield dated 15 June 1920. Also present is a series of letters and registers from the Stamp Office, Somerset Place, London, Legacy Duty Department, dated between 1829 and 1834, including Administration Register No. 2. Printed materials include Chambers’s Journal, Seventh Series, Part 31, published 1 July 1913 by W. & R. Chambers, Ltd. (London & Edinburgh) in an octavo softcover format with pictorial orange wrappers featuring advertisements for McVitie & Price’s Digestive Biscuits and W. & R. Chambers
