Description
This is a fine example of a pectoral cross, WW11 German Priest Field Cross The piece is constructed with a light-coloured frame, likely carved bone or a high-quality early synthetic material, featuring dark wood inlays, traditionally ebony. The front is adorned with a silver-tone metal corpus of Christ beneath a radiant nimbus and an INRI titulus. A memento mori skull and crossbones is positioned at the base, a symbolic representation of Golgotha. The reverse features a central circular metal plaque with a floral relief. This style of crucifix was commonly worn by members of religious orders or used as a significant personal devotional object. Height: Approximately 6.5 inches.
