Lot 218:
Description
A pair of Royal Worcester porcelain figurines, modelled as candle snuffers, titled The Monk and The Nun. The Monk is depicted in a grey habit with a traditional tonsure, reading an open book with hand-painted gold-gilt edges. The companion figure, The Nun, is dressed in the black and white habit of the Daughters of Charity, featuring a large, winged cornette headpiece. She holds a closed book with gilt accents and has a detailed rosary with a cross and keys suspended from her waist. Both pieces feature a high-gloss glaze and are characteristic of the factory’s ecclesiastical series. No factory marks or decorator signatures are visible on the underside of the bases.
