Description

A Victorian silver-plated cylindrical biscuit barrel manufactured by the esteemed Sheffield firm Atkin Brothers. The piece features a highly decorative body with elaborate bright-cut engraving, depicting scrolling acanthus leaf swags, floral garlands, and geometric borders. The slightly domed lid is surmounted by a cast foliate-form finial and displays matching circular engraved motifs. The barrel is mounted to an integral tray-style base, finished with a beaded rim and supported by four small bracket feet. The underside is clearly stamped with the Atkin Brothers trade mark (a bunch of grapes), the letters A B S L, a circular star or floral mark, the number 75, and the letter C. The interior is polished, while the exterior retains a high-shine finish characteristic of late 19th-century English silver plate. Dimensions: Height and diameter not recorded.
