Lot 34:
Description
This is an authentic antique oil-burning lamp, designed for use on early Safety bicycles or light carriages. Constructed from sheet steel with a weathered patina, the unit features a prominent circular clear glass front lens protected by a metal hood. The square body includes two side apertures: one clear glass for lateral visibility and one red glass lens, serving as a rear-facing signal. A notable feature is the heavy-duty, spring-loaded mounting bracket at the rear, designed to dampen road vibrations; this bracket retains remnants of its original leather or fabric padding. A side-hinged door allows access to the internal burner compartment, and an external knob is present for wick adjustment. While no manufacturer marks or patent dates are visible, the design is highly characteristic of British makers such as Joseph Lucas or H. Miller and Co. from the late 19th to early 20th century. This is an original period piece, not a modern reproduction. Dimensions: Approximately 7.5 to 8 inches in height.
