Lot 39:
Description
A comprehensive collection of decorative lace bobbins, primarily of the Midland style, crafted from turned light-coloured wood. The assortment features numerous examples adorned with hand-painted floral motifs and detailed handwritten inscriptions. Notable inscriptions include geographical locations and specific events such as THAILAND, Weald of Kent Craft, Spring Grove Lace, and Lace Day. Several pieces serve as commemorative markers for the lace-making community, bearing dates including 1991, 1992, 1995, and 2006, with one reference noting Since 1988. Many bobbins are fitted with traditional spangles consisting of colourful glass beads attached by wire loops to provide necessary tension during the lace-making process. The collection represents a significant record of late 20th-century and early 21st-century craft gatherings and regional lace-making societies. Individual bobbins measure approximately 10.2 cm to 12.7 cm (4 to 5 inches) in length.
