Description
An elongated octagonal brass jewellery box of Indo-Persian origin, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. This metalware piece is constructed from brass featuring extensive hand-chased and stippled decoration throughout. The domed lid is designed with a central raised panel accented by radial ribs and scrolling floral motifs set against a textured ground. The body is divided into rectangular panels, each containing intricate floral designs, with a prominent central scene depicting a horse. This item exemplifies the Mamluk Revival style, drawing on Moorish and Islamic decorative traditions popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. No maker’s marks or signatures are present. Length: approximately 7.5 inches.
