Description
A collection of two hand-carved wooden items of folk art interest. The first is a naturalistic elephant figurine, carved from a dense, highly figured hardwood, possibly teak or suar wood, displaying a prominent swirling grain. The figure is modelled in a walking gait with a single inset white tusk. The second item is a novelty child’s stool, the seat carved in the form of a stylised canine face with relief-carved ears and tongue, finished in polychrome paint. The stool is raised on four square-tapered legs. These pieces are characteristic of late 20th-century decorative craft. Elephant measures approximately 22cm in length; stool measures approximately 26cm in height.
