Lot 81:
Description
An anonymous cast bronze sculpture of a celestial dancer or Apsara, rendered in a traditional South Asian style. The figure is captured in a fluid, serpentine pose with her right hand held in a mudra and her left arm raised. She is adorned with an elaborate pointed headdress, large circular earrings, and detailed jewellery. The piece is produced using the lost-wax casting method, evidenced by the intricate detailing in the crown and garments. The sculpture features a dark chocolate-brown patina with heavy green verdigris-like oxidation concentrated in the recessed details of the headdress, clothing, and base, which appears to be an intentional decorative finish. The figure stands on an integrated circular tiered base featuring a stylised petal or lotus motif. No artist signatures or foundry marks are present. 16.5 x 6.0 x 4.0 inches.
