Description

A novelty glazed ceramic commemorative cup, produced by Carlton Ware as part of the celebrated Walking Ware range to mark the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in 1977. The white earthenware vessel is fashioned in a whimsical style, supported by three tripod legs modelled in a kneeling position, wearing blue-striped stockings and black Mary Jane-style shoes. The front of the cup is adorned with a polychrome transfer-printed design featuring the EIIR royal cypher surmounted by St. Edward’s Crown, enclosed within a ribbon banner inscribed THE QUEEN’S SILVER JUBILEE 1952 – 1977. This range was originally designed by Roger Michell and Dyanne Harrison of Lustre Pottery before being manufactured by the historic Carlton Ware factory in Stoke-on-Trent. Height: approximately 8 cm.
