Description

A Chinese porcelain vase Circa 1830’s of square form featuring a tapered body rising to a wide, flat rim. The exterior is decorated in polychrome enamels with various bird and flower motifs across the four sides. One face depicts a black bird perched on a gnarled tree trunk, while another shows a long-tailed paradise flycatcher amongst flowering plum branches. Additional sides feature pine boughs and floral studies. The neck is inscribed on one side with archaic-style Chinese characters in red enamel, which translate as May there be auspicious celebrations and harmony. The opposite side of the neck displays black calligraphy including a cyclical date for the Xinsi year and a red seal mark. The underside is undecorated with a recessed base.

Condition report:

The vase is in good overall condition. There is minor surface wear and light accumulation of dust and soil consistent with age. Scattered firing imperfections are present, including minor pitting to the glaze.
