Description

A late 19th century mahogany writing table manufactured by the London cabinetmaker and retailer Heal and Son. The piece features a solid mahogany top of two-plank construction with a square edge. It is fitted with a single full-width frieze drawer constructed with hand-cut dovetail joints and two turned wood knobs. A central brass-lined keyhole is present to the drawer front. The interior upper edge of the drawer front carries an inset rectangular brass maker plaque stamped HEAL and SON. The table is supported by four turned legs featuring ring and bulbous detailing, tapering to the feet.


Condition report:

The item is in used condition with significant signs of wear consistent with age. The top surface shows extensive staining, watermarks, scratches, and loss of finish throughout. There is a notable white paint mark on the front drawer rail. General scuffs, dust, and age-related wear are visible across the legs and frame. No key is present for the drawer lock.
