Description

A Chinese Cantonese export porcelain baluster vase, dating to the late 19th century. The vessel is constructed with an everted scalloped rim and a neck flanked by two applied Buddhist lion handles in green and tan enamels. The shoulder features four moulded chilong dragons in high relief, decorated in pink and blue glazes. The body is ornamented with two primary rectangular cartouches containing polychrome enamel scenes. The larger lower panel depicts a domestic interior scene with multiple figures in traditional dress, while the upper neck panel shows two figures in an outdoor setting beneath a red sun. These panels are surrounded by floral sprays and foliage against a white ground. The base is encircled by a band of vertical lappets in alternating colours. The interior of the rim is decorated with small floral sprigs. No marks are visible on the vessel.

Condition report:

The vase is in overall good condition consistent with age. Minor kiln imperfections and grit are visible on the interior of the rim. There are small areas of enamel wear to the decorative panels and relief elements. No significant cracks, chips, or professional repairs are apparent from visual inspection.
