Lot 144:
Description
This lot comprises a portable photographic field developing kit, with the contents housed in a tan leather pouch of a pattern consistent with a German Second World War Luftschutz Gastasche. The kit was retailed by a firm in Chester, identified by the partial label on the developer tube as …ett, Ltd. The interior of the case is fitted with five leather loops containing various vessels and accessories for field processing. The contents include two green glass bottles, one with a ground glass stopper and another with a wooden stopper bearing a partial label for RN PAINT. There are also two clear glass bottles of differing sizes and a cylindrical paper-wrapped container with a printed label for DEVELOPER. This label includes instructions for use with bromide and identifies the Chester-based supplier. Additional equipment includes a rectangular metal tin, possibly for plates or paper, a roll of light green protective fabric, and two small spools in black and white.

Condition report:
The leather case shows significant signs of age and use, with scuffing to the exterior and heavy dark staining to the reverse panel consistent with chemical or water damage. The stitching is largely intact, though wear is present at the flex points of the lid. The metal front clasp is functional but exhibits oxidation. The glass bottles and containers are in varied condition with some labels worn or partially missing. The developer tube shows yellowing and minor foxing to the paper. All chemicals are assumed to be expired and are sold for historical display purposes only.
