Description
A precision surveying and drafting instrument manufactured by W.F. Stanley and Co. Ltd. under the Allbrit brand. The instrument comprises a nickel-plated brass tracer bar with engraved numerical graduations ranging from approximately 28 to 68. The carriage and tracer assembly are constructed from black-lacquered metal featuring brass adjustment screws. The measuring mechanism includes a white composite wheel and a circular dial scale. The carriage is stamped with the maker name ALLBRIT and serial number 23562. The instrument is housed in its original rectangular black textured case with a purple velvet-lined interior. The interior of the lid contains a printed and handwritten calibration chart corresponding to various map scales including 1:200, 1:400, 1:1000, and 1:2000, with associated vernier positions and constants. Included within the case are the main tracer bar, measuring carriage, a black cylindrical pole weight, and a small metal rod.
Case length: 25.5 cm.
Condition report:
The instrument appears to be in well-preserved and complete condition. The engraved scales remain clear and legible. The metal components show no significant signs of corrosion or damage. The original case is intact with functioning silver-toned latches, showing only minor exterior shelf wear consistent with age. The interior velvet lining remains vibrant. Mechanical function has not been tested.
