Description
A Victorian style double inkstand or inkwell, constructed from cast brass with ornate high-relief decoration. The rectangular base features a prominent rope-twist border and is embellished with scrolling foliate designs and shell-like motifs. The stand incorporates two integral, circular inkwells, each fitted with a hinged, domed lid. The lids are decorated with radiating acanthus leaf patterns, beaded bands, and are topped with pointed finials. Positioned between the two inkwells is a central oval cartouche containing a single raised, stylized character resembling the letter S. The base is supported by four integrated feet formed by the corner scrollwork.

Condition report:
The inkstand shows signs of age and use. There is a substantial accumulation of white, dried metal polish residue within the deep recesses of the casting. Surface wear is present on the high points of the relief, revealing brighter brass beneath a darkened patina. The internal glass or ceramic liners are missing. The hinges are intact and functional.
