Description
A mid-century brass hand-pump fire extinguisher of one quart capacity, manufactured by Read and Campbell Ltd of London. The cylindrical brass body features extensive embossed lettering, identifying it as a Tetra brand carbon tetrachloride type extinguisher. The text includes the maker name Read and Campbell Ltd. Incorporating British Fire Appliances Co. Ltd., 75, Victoria Street, S.W. 1. Technical markings indicate the unit was made to B.S. 1721 in 1956 and complies with F.O.C. Ref. 89/26 for public service vehicles. The body includes operating instructions to turn handle to left and work like a pump, alongside a warning regarding the fumes given off by the contents. A separate embossed section identifies the sole Australian distributors as Fire Fighting Equipment Pty. Ltd. The extinguisher is fitted with a T-shaped handle at one end and a discharge nozzle at the other.

Condition report:
The item exhibits an aged patina with visible surface tarnish, oxidation, and minor scratches throughout. There are several small indentations to the brass body consistent with age and functional use.
