Lot 206:
Description
This mid-20th-century kitchen utensil is an ice cream sandwich or wafer maker produced by Ergos in Sheffield, England. The tool features a rectangular metal tray with a corrugated internal base, designed to hold a wafer in place while ice cream is added. The tray is mounted upon a cylindrical handle equipped with a sliding ring-pull mechanism, which facilitates the ejection of the finished ice cream sandwich. The item is constructed from plated metal, likely nickel or chrome over a base metal such as brass. The exterior of the tray is embossed on one side with the marks BRITISH REGD 856 244. The opposite side bears a circular trade mark containing the text SHEFFIELD REGISTERED ERGOS TRADE MARK ENGLAND. A small numeral 3 is incised into the upper portion of the handle. The British Registered Design number 856,244 indicates the design was registered circa 1948-1949.
Tray width: approximately 8 cm.
Condition report:
The item exhibits signs of age and significant use. There is widespread surface pitting, oxidation, and noticeable loss of the plated finish, particularly across the tray surfaces and the handle. The mechanical sliding ring-pull is present and moves, though the internal mechanism has not been tested for functional smoothness.
