Description
A Chinese carved celadon jade plaque of square form. The piece is worked in a pierced openwork technique. The central motif features a stylised Shuangxi (Double Happiness) character. This central element is enclosed within a square border of raised circular beads. The outer perimeter is decorated with a border of scrolling foliate and ruyi-head motifs. The material is a pale celadon or greenish-white nephrite jade with a polished finish and visible natural inclusions. The carving style is consistent with decorative arts from the late Qing Dynasty to the early Republic period. Accompanied by a black velvet drawstring pouch.
Dimensions: 6.5 cm x 6.5 cm.
Condition report:
The plaque is in good overall condition. The carving remains crisp. No chips, cracks, or significant abrasions are visible to the surface.
