Lot 188:
Description
A pair of rectangular English porcelain trays, each featuring an elaborate hand-painted fruit still life in the manner of Royal Worcester Painted Fruit. One tray depicts peaches, purple grapes, and cherries, while the other features two large pears accompanied by blackberries and raspberries. The fruit subjects are set against a stippled, yellowish-green moss-effect background. Each tray is finished with a heavy gold-gilt scalloped rim and integrally moulded scroll handles at the ends. Both pieces are signed J.H. Stubbs in black enamel within the decoration. The reverse of each tray lacks a printed factory mark but bears hand-painted characters in blue enamel, including K 19 XX and various gilder or pattern marks. A small, rectangular silver-coloured retailer or inventory label is affixed to the centre of one underside.
Condition report:
Both trays appear to be in very good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The hand-painted enamels are well-preserved and remain vibrant. The gilding to the rims and handles shows minimal wear. There is some minor surface grime to the unglazed foot rims on the reverse.
