Description
A group of traditional Russian Matryoshka (nesting) dolls, hand-painted on wood with a lacquered finish. The collection comprises dolls from two distinct decorative styles. One group is rendered in a style resembling traditional Semenov designs, featuring figures with black hair, blue eyes, and red shawls, decorated with large pink rose motifs against a yellow ground. The second group consists of dolls with blonde hair and red shawls featuring white decorative detailing, with the lower bodies finished in black and adorned with floral and strawberry patterns. The dolls are of typical hollow construction in graduating sizes. No maker’s marks, signatures, or factory stamps are visible on the exterior surfaces.
Condition report:
The dolls are in good overall condition with vibrant pigments and a glossy lacquered finish throughout. There is minor surface wear and occasional light scuffing to the bases consistent with handling. The grouping appears to be composed of elements from at least two different sets.
