Description

A vintage souvenir mineral collection titled Minerali del Vesuvio, originating from Mount Vesuvius, Italy. This set comprises twelve identified specimens presented in their original partitioned cardboard display case. The interior lid features four watercolour-style illustrations depicting the volcano at various points in history, labelled 1913, 79 d.C., 1944, and a central larger image dated 1983. Printed text in Italian, English, French, and German identifies the contents as Mineral of Vesuvio of the 1944 Eruption. A purple ink authenticity stamp is located on the interior lid, featuring a mountain silhouette and the text MONTE VESUVIO and QUOTA 1270. The specimens are housed in a white card insert with printed labels for each compartment: Olivina (Olivine), Calcite (Calcite), Sanidino (Sanidine), Silicio di Carbonio (Silicon Carbide), Granato (Garnet), Vesuvianite (Vesuvianite), Mimetite (Mimetite), Lava Rossa (Red Lava), Mica Nera (Biotite), Covellina (Covellite), Mica Gialla (Phlogopite), and Ornoblenda (Hornblende). The collection is contained within a red textured cardboard box with a faux-snakeskin pattern.

Condition report:

The specimens are in good original condition, although several have shifted from their designated compartments. The cardboard box and interior insert show age-related wear, including minor scuffing to the exterior edges and corners, and light foxing and staining to the white interior card.
