Lot 16:
Description
This collection consists of an assortment of religious devotional objects, primarily crucifixes and plaques, likely dating from the 19th to the 20th century. The grouping features a large central standing altar crucifix in cast brass or bronze, decorated with openwork quatrefoil finials containing heart-shaped motifs. This piece includes a cast scroll inscribed INRI above the corpus and a small relief of a cherub at the base of the vertical beam, all supported by a tiered, stepped rectangular base. Also present is a standing crucifix with a hammered or bark-effect texture in a bronze-toned metal, and a simpler polished brass standing crucifix. A minimalist Latin cross constructed from square-section metal bars is included. The wall-mounted items include a cast metal crucifix plaque with flanking figures, possibly the Virgin Mary and St John the Apostle, mounted on a rectangular wooden board. The plaques comprise a relief-cast portrait of the Head of Christ wearing the crown of thorns, finished in bronze tones and mounted on an octagonal wooden base, alongside a small, heavy rectangular silver-toned metal plaque depicting a religious figural scene in relief.
Central crucifix: approximately 40cm height
Hammered crucifix: approximately 32cm height
Octagonal plaque: approximately 15cm width.
Condition report:
The items exhibit signs of age-related wear consistent with use. There are varied surface patinas, tarnish, and areas of oxidation to the metal components. The wooden mounts show light surface scuffing and minor wear.
