Description

A collection of flip-top pocket lighters, primarily in the Zippo style, featuring various branded, souvenir, and novelty designs. The lot includes a Zippo Rio Grande lighter in a polished chrome finish with an engraved cowboy boot motif, presented in its original black ZIPPO U.S.A. LIGHTER box with a printed lifetime guarantee. A brushed chrome-finish lighter featuring the Motor Harley-Davidson Cycles bar and shield logo is included in a dedicated metal presentation tin. A third cased lighter in polished chrome features an etched fishing scene and is housed in a metal tin with a grey velvet-style lining.

The collection further includes several themed and souvenir examples: a red-bodied Manchester United Football Club lighter with the club crest; a green and white striped Celtic Football Club lighter with dual crests; a white-bodied Scotland souvenir lighter with pictorial scenes including the Forth Rail Bridge and a bagpiper; a black-finished John Player Special (JPS) lighter with a gold-tone monogram; and a silver-tone Elvis Presley lighter featuring a printed portrait and copyright mark for E.P.E. Inc. Novelty designs include a silver-tone lighter with a pizza slice graphic and another with a small applied enamel brown leaf emblem. The lot is completed by three plain or worn examples: one in a brass-toned finish with significant patina, one polished chrome-finish lighter, and one silver-tone lighter with a heavily worn central design.

Accompanying the lighters are two decorative boxes. The first is a large rectangular presentation box with a brown and tan burr-wood effect finish and a metal clasp. The second is a small, ornate rectangular metal box featuring filigree-style decoration and a turquoise-coloured cabochon set into the lid.

Condition report:

The collection is in varied condition. The boxed Zippo, Harley-Davidson, and fishing scene lighters appear to be in good cosmetic condition with minor shelf wear to the packaging. The Manchester United, Celtic, and Scotland lighters show some surface wear and minor scratches. The plain chrome and brass-toned lighters exhibit significant tarnishing, heavy surface scratching, and patina. One silver-tone lighter has a heavily faded decorative design. The burr-wood effect box shows light surface wear, while the small filigree box retains its decorative stone and clasp. The functional condition of the internal mechanisms, flints, and wicks has not been tested.
