Description

This is a detailed, amateur-constructed folk art model of a caterpillar-style crawler tractor, designed in the style of early 20th-century industrial machinery. The piece is fabricated from various metal components, including sheet steel, tinplate, rods, and wire, finished in dark green paint with contrasting red-painted spoked wheels. The model features extensive detail, including a simulated multi-cylinder engine block with exposed pipework, a front radiator with a wire mesh grille and a suspended piece of burlap or hessian, a spring-mounted driver seat, a steering wheel, and various control levers. The undercarriage includes heavy-duty tensioning springs and tracks made from a corrugated material. The rear is fitted with a simple tow-hitch. The item appears to be a unique, one-off construction with no maker marks or branding visible.

Length: 28cm.

Condition report:

The model is in a heavily weathered, barn-find condition, showing a significant accumulation of dust, grime, and surface oxidation throughout. The corrugated tracks show signs of fraying and age-related deterioration, with the track on one side appearing loose or partially detached.
