Description

This lot comprises three optical instruments of varying ages. The first is an antique compound microscope constructed from brass with a black-finished cast-metal limb and foot. It features a single draw-tube for focusing, a square stage with slide clips, and a gimballed sub-stage mirror for illumination. It is housed in its original fitted mahogany box with internal wooden supports and velvet-lined blocks. The second instrument is a mid-to-late 20th-century student-grade compound microscope with a black-finished frame, a rotating triple-objective nosepiece, and an adjustable sub-stage mirror, contained within its original cardboard and polystyrene packaging. The third item is a modern 16×52 high-power monocular telescope with a black rubber-armoured body and textured grips. The body is marked 16×52 and 66M/8000M, while the objective end features a focal scale and is marked day and night and Field 22 degrees. This telescope includes its original retail box, a smartphone adapter mount, and a blue microfibre cleaning cloth.

Monocular length: 15 cm

Mahogany case width: 15 cm.

Condition report:

The antique brass microscope exhibits a natural aged patina and some surface oxidation consistent with age. The student microscope and monocular telescope appear to be in good cosmetic condition, with the monocular in an apparently unused state. The boxes for the student microscope and monocular show some light storage wear. Mechanical movements and optical clarity for all items have not been tested.
