Lot 168:
Description
A trio of early 20th century mechanical mantel clocks of varying designs. The collection includes an oak-cased tambour clock featuring a silvered chapter ring with Arabic numerals, a wood-grain centre, and two winding apertures. A metal presentation plaque is affixed to the base. The second item is a small rectangular mantel clock with a dark-stained wood case and a silvered dial displaying Roman numerals. The third and largest clock is of architectural form with a stepped base and a cream dial decorated with scrollwork spandrels and Arabic numerals. This larger clock is fitted with Breguet-style hands and two winding holes. The interior of the architectural clock reveals a brass plate movement and a well-preserved paper instruction label for a John Bull brand alarm mechanism.
Overall width of collection: approximately 34 inches
Height of architectural clock: approximately 16 inches.
Condition report:
The clocks are in original, unrestored condition. There is minor chipping to the wood veneer on the curved top of the tambour clock. All wooden cases exhibit general surface wear, minor scratches, and patination consistent with age. The mechanical movements are untested and are sold as seen; no winding keys are included in the lot.
