Description
This collection consists of approximately 16 vintage sporting programmes, primarily international Rugby Union and Manchester United football fixtures dating from the 1970s to the 1990s. The rugby selection features several Five Nations Championship matchday programmes including Scotland v Wales (1971), the Scotland v England Centenary match (1971) featuring an artist’s impression of the 1871 game, and the Scotland and Ireland v England and Wales Centenary Season commemorative programme (1972-1973). Other rugby internationals include England v Ireland (1976), England v France (1977), England v Ireland (1978), England v Scotland with a diagonal split cover design, and Scotland v Australia (1984). The England v Ireland 1978 programme features an unidentified handwritten signature in ink to the lower right corner. The football portion focuses on Manchester United and contains the 1979 FA Cup Final Souvenir Programme for Arsenal v Manchester United at Wembley Stadium. Also included are multiple United Review issues from the mid-1990s, including the matchday against Leicester City (1996) and covers featuring players such as Roy Keane and Peter Schmeichel, alongside an earlier 1980s programme from the Sharp-sponsored era.
Condition report:
The items are in varied vintage condition showing typical signs of age including light creasing, some corner wear, and general age-toning to the paper. The 1979 FA Cup Final programme displays surface wear to the green cover. The unidentified signature on the 1978 rugby programme is unauthenticated. All items appear complete and legible.
