Description

A vintage mechanical metronome by Wittner, Germany, of traditional pyramidal form. The instrument features a wooden case with a mahogany-coloured finish. It operates via a clockwork System Maelzel mechanism, which is powered by a brass-toned winding key located on the side. The internal mechanism includes a swinging metal pendulum with a sliding weight to adjust the beat. The white internal scale is calibrated with tempo markings ranging from 40 to 208 beats per minute (BPM), accompanied by traditional musical terms such as Largo, Adagio, Andante, Allegro, and Presto. The Wittner brand name is printed at the base of the scale plate. The unit is provided with its original removable wooden front panel, which bears a silver-toned diamond-shaped badge featuring a stylised tuning fork logo and a secondary black rectangular badge above.

Height: Approximately 22 cm.

Condition report:

The item is in used vintage condition. The wooden casing exhibits various surface scuffs, small chips, and scratches consistent with age and regular use. The front cover is present but is currently detached from its mounting. The clockwork mechanism appears to be functional as the pendulum is captured in motion within the photographs, though the accuracy of the timing and the condition of the mainspring have not been professionally tested.
