Lot 76:
Description
An assortment of items featuring an insignia of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem. This neck badge is designed as an eight-pointed Maltese cross in white enamel, with alternating heraldic lions and unicorns positioned between the arms of the cross. The badge is surmounted by a suspension crown and is attached to a plain red silk ribbon. The piece appears to be constructed from gilt metal and enamel. Included is a decorative set of three miniature edged weapons, resembling rapiers or swords, housed in a specialised stand made of brass and white metal. The collection also contains several small metal figurines, including a black-painted lead or metal figure depicting a soldier in a greatcoat and helmet, possibly of the WWI or WWII era, a second similar figure, and a cast metal horse. These items are presented alongside a variety of domestic collectables such as a miniature trunk, a ceramic tiger figurine, an hourglass, and other miscellaneous pieces.
Condition report:
The enamel on the Order of St John neck badge appears largely intact, although the red silk ribbon shows signs of wear and creasing from storage. The miniature weapons and metal figurines exhibit an aged patina and minor surface wear. The various domestic collectables in the lot show varying degrees of wear and aged patina consistent with handling and age.
