Lot 84:
Description
This collection of vintage medical diagnostic equipment comprises several separate sets and additional components. The first set is an English otoscope diagnostic set, resembling the work of Gowllands, featuring a chrome-plated, knurled metal battery handle and three interchangeable chrome-plated specula of varying sizes. It is housed in a black pebbled-effect hardshell case with the word OTOSCOPE embossed on the lid in gilt lettering and a purple velvet and satin-lined interior; the interior is marked MADE IN ENGLAND. The second set is a German blood pressure monitoring kit, containing an aneroid sphygmomanometer with a white dial face calibrated from 0 to 300 mmHg, an inflation bulb with a chrome-plated valve, and a binaural stethoscope with grey tubing. These are contained in a black zippered leatherette pouch embossed with a shield-shaped logo containing a V and the word Germany, attributed to Visomat. The third set is a diagnostic set, attributed to Boehm, featuring a black-finished battery handle and four chrome-plated specula, housed in a black hardshell case with a blue velvet-lined interior. Additional items include three loose optical parts: a brass-mounted lens assembly, a black circular lens component, and a small black plastic protective canister.
Measurements:
Individual cases range from approximately 17.8 cm to 27.9 cm (7 inches to 11 inches) in length.
Condition report:
The instruments appear to be in good cosmetic condition with bright chrome-plated finishes on most components. The black-finished handle in the third set shows visible surface wear and loss of finish. The hardshell cases exhibit minor shelf wear to the exteriors and light fading to the interior fabric linings. The rubber components of the stethoscope and sphygmomanometer remain intact but show signs of age. All items are sold as historical collectibles; mechanical and electrical functions have not been tested.
