Lot 86:
Description
This assortment of Asian decorative objects features a large hand-carved wooden Teppanom statue, a celestial guardian from Thai mythology. The figure is depicted in a traditional kneeling position with hands held together in an Anjali Mudra prayer gesture and wears a tiered chada headdress. The statue is embellished with applied gold and silver-toned metallic foil and paint over the carved wood. The collection includes two Chinese glazed porcelain figurines: a larger figure of a woman in white robes decorated with black and gold overglaze foliate patterns seated on a rocky base, and a smaller seated lady wearing a pink and green patterned robe. Also present are two small Buddha head busts cast in metal with a dark greenish-grey verdigris-style patina, featuring traditional snail-shell hair curls and elongated earlobes. The lot contains a set of two Baoding healthy balls in a fabric-covered presentation box; the balls are decorated with Yin-Yang symbols and the box lid contains a label with the English text CHINA, BEIJING, and SYNOPSIS OF THE HEALTHY BALL, along with the Chinese characters 健身球说明书 (Health Ball Instruction Manual), 中国 (China), and 北京 (Beijing). Additionally, the group includes a pair of polished dark wood chopsticks with mother-of-pearl fish inlays and a polished bamboo holder.
Teppanom Statue height: approximately 48 cm.
Condition report:
The items are in good vintage condition overall. The carved wooden Teppanom statue shows minor expected wear and some loss to the gilded and silver-toned surfaces. The porcelain figurines and cast metal busts appear to be in good condition without significant damage. The Baoding balls and their presentation box are well-preserved. All items show light surface dust and minor signs of wear consistent with age and display.
