Lot 120:
Description
This lot comprises two mid-century vanity and grooming sets in their respective fitted cases. The first is a travel dressing case in a dark brown leather-effect hard-sided box with a hinged lid. The interior is fitted with straps holding three rectangular glass bottles with silver-tone screw-top lids, two rectangular metal containers, and a suite of manicure tools with cream-coloured celluloid handles. The second is a two-piece lady’s dressing table set housed in a brown faux-crocodile skin textured case with a yellow-gold satin-effect lining. This set contains a matching hand mirror and hairbrush crafted from dark brown marbled faux-tortoiseshell plastic. No maker’s marks are visible on the components of either set.
Travel case width: approximately 9 inches.
Condition report:
The travel case shows external scuffing and scratches consistent with age. There is visible tarnish and oxidation to the metal lids and boxes. The internal leather straps and lining show wear. The faux-crocodile case is in generally good condition with minor rubbing to the corners and edges. The satin lining is wrinkled with some minor age-related discolouration. The faux-tortoiseshell items appear well-preserved without significant chips or cracks.
