Description

A pair of late 19th to early 20th-century figures cast in spelter with a bronzed surface patina. The sculptures depict two female figures in flowing classical-style drapery; one is playing a mandolin-like instrument, while the other is in a graceful pose with her arms raised to her head. Both figures are mounted on integral, rustic-style circular bases. Each base bears a circular foundry mark surmounted by a crown, containing text for the Fabrication Française, Paris seal. One base includes faint incised characters below the seal which appear to read Fanti, though they are worn and not fully distinct. The style is typical of French Belle Epoque decorative art.

Height: 27.5 cm.

Condition report:

The pair is in fair condition, showing significant wear to the bronzed finish across the high points of the drapery, the reverse, and the bases, which exposes the underlying grey base metal. The foundry seals and signatures are rubbed and only partially legible. There are minor surface scratches and general signs of age throughout.
