Description
An antique adjustable powder measure of French origin, constructed with a brass measuring cylinder and shaft fitted to a turned wooden handle. The device features a tiered adjustment system to regulate the volume of the measuring cup. The exterior of the brass cylinder is stamped with the words GRAMMES and POUDRE. Graduated scales are provided next to the adjustment notches; one side is marked with increments 1.50, 2.00, and 2.50, while the reverse displays 1, 1 1/2, and 2. The sliding internal component is stamped with the capital letter M. This tool was designed for measuring black powder charges for firearms.
Condition report:
The item is in good antique condition. The brass elements display a natural aged patina with light surface marks and scratches throughout. The wooden handle shows expected wear from historical use, including darkening and staining to the finish. The internal sliding mechanism is intact and moves freely.
