Description
A hand-carved hardwood figurine depicting Hotei, commonly referred to as the Laughing Buddha. The deity is portrayed in a traditional seated posture with a prominent rotund abdomen, elongated earlobes, and a wide smiling expression. He is dressed in loose, flowing robes that are open at the chest and holds a large cloth sack in his left hand. The figure is carved from a dense, dark reddish-brown wood, possibly rosewood, with a polished finish. The integral low base is decorated with a carved cross-hatched or woven texture.

Condition report:
The figurine exhibits a significant vertical shrinkage crack to the reverse, extending from the base up through the torso. There are additional minor surface scuffs, scratches, and small indentations to the wood, particularly on the back and the top of the head. A small circular loss or indentation is visible on the upper left shoulder at the back.
