Description
This collection comprises an assortment of vintage medical diagnostic equipment. It includes a Doctor brand mercury sphygmomanometer of Japanese manufacture, housed in a textured metal case and its original red cardboard packaging. The unit features a graduated glass column from 0 to 300 mmHg with a grey fabric pressure cuff and black rubber bulb. Accompanying this is an aneroid sphygmomanometer with a chrome-plated circular dial and a separate stethoscope with grey tubing and chrome-plated chest piece. The lot contains two cased diagnostic sets of English origin. One set, in a purple velvet-lined case, contains a chrome-plated knurled handle and assorted specula. The second set, in a blue velvet-lined case, features a black textured handle with an otoscope head. A black zippered leatherette pouch is also included. Visible markings include Doctor Sphygmo-manometer Made in Japan on the mercury unit and Made in England on the diagnostic cases.
Condition report:
The collection is in vintage condition with clear signs of age and previous clinical use. The rubber components, such as the tubing and inflation bulbs, show typical signs of ageing and may have lost their original flexibility. The glass scale on the mercury unit displays significant yellowing. Metal surfaces show minor scratches and wear consistent with use. The mercury sphygmomanometer contains a column of liquid mercury; buyers must adhere to regulations regarding the transport of hazardous materials. All instruments are sold as untested and for decorative or historical interest.
