Description
An Ogden’s Photo Album, produced by Ogden’s of Liverpool circa 1900. This landscape-format hardcover album is bound in brown textured cloth featuring an embossed crocodile-skin pattern, with the title OGDEN’S Photo Album embossed in stylized lettering on the front board. Internally, the album consists of cream-coloured card pages with pre-cut rectangular and oval apertures containing an assortment of black-and-white photographic cigarette cards from the Ogden’s Guinea Gold Cigarettes series. The collection features prominent historical, political, and military figures of the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Military subjects include Lord Kitchener of Khartoum, Lt. Col. R.S.S. Baden-Powell, and Lord Roberts of Kandahar. Cultural and historical figures represented include the author Ouida (Madame Louise de la Ramee), composer Edvard Grieg, and scientist Sir Isaac Newton.

Condition report:
The binding shows shelf wear consistent with age, including bumping and fraying at the spine ends and corners. Internal pages exhibit significant toning and scattered foxing throughout. Several card apertures show minor tearing or wear at the edges from use, and at least one card is currently loose and detached from its slot. The photographic cards generally show minor silvering and edge wear typical for ephemera of this period.
