Description

This lot comprises a three-piece carving set and a cased set of six knives. The carving set consists of a meat carving knife, a poultry carving knife, and a sharpening steel. The handles are decorated in an ornate foliate and shell pattern. Marks on the handles include the maker’s initials H H for Harrison Brothers & Howson, the crown for Sheffield, the lion passant for sterling silver, and the date letter o for 1906. Some handles exhibit marks for silver plate. The blades are made of steel, with a scimitar-style curve on the meat knife, and the sharpening steel has a textured metal rod. The cased set consists of six knives with shell pattern handles and polished metal blades. These are housed in a fitted presentation case with a navy blue velvet-lined base and a cream silk-lined lid.

Case width: 23 cm

Carving knife length: 37 cm.

Condition report:

The silver and silver-plated handles show visible tarnish. The steel blades and sharpening rod exhibit oxidation and pitting. The presentation case shows external wear and scuffing to the edges and corners, with age-related discolouration to the interior silk lining.
