Lot 32:
Description
A French brass-cased carriage timepiece by the makers Richard and Co (Richard and Cie), Paris. The polished brass case is of Obis design, featuring bevelled glass panels to the front, sides, back, and top, surmounted by a shaped folding loop handle. The white enamel dial is set with black Roman numeral hour markers and a fine outer minute track, with blued steel hands. The mechanical, spring-driven time-only movement is stamped on the backplate with the maker mark R & Co within an oval above MADE IN PARIS. A platform lever escapement is visible through the top glass aperture. The lot includes a double-ended brass winding key and the original fitted, leather-covered outer carrying case with a purple velvet-lined interior.
Height: 12 cm (excluding handle).
Condition report:
The brass case shows light, even patination and minor tarnish consistent with age. The enamel dial appears in good condition, free from visible chips or hairlines. All bevelled glass panels are intact. The leather-covered outer carrying case is in a distressed state, showing significant wear, drying, and losses to the exterior leather surface, though the interior velvet remains largely intact. The movement is complete with its key; it has not been tested for timekeeping accuracy. Professional servicing is recommended for all mechanical clocks.
