Lot 43:
Description
This lot comprises two framed items. The primary piece is a large, oval, sepia-toned photograph, likely a bromide or silver gelatin print with a matte finish. The image depicts a bust-length portrait of a young girl with long, curly hair in a classical pose, typical of late Victorian and Edwardian studio photography. The print is signed in the lower right corner Isabel Sariguell. It is housed in a decorative, scalloped, oval-shaped frame with a dark wood-effect finish, featuring gilt-painted foliate motifs at the cardinal points and a beaded inner border. The second item is a small, square-framed shell cameo featuring a female profile in relief, set against a black velvet background. It is presented within a burr-wood effect frame with gilt inner slips.
Oval Frame: 13 inches x 10.75 inches
Cameo Frame: 5.5 inches x 5.5 inches.
Condition report:
The photograph exhibits notable vertical creasing and surface cracking, particularly on the left-hand side of the image. There is evidence of foxing and localised staining along the lower edge of the print. The oval frame shows minor surface scuffs and wear consistent with age. The cameo frame has a visible chip to the veneer on the bottom-left corner.
