Description

A mid-20th-century British motor vehicle registration plate manufactured by Ace (Cornercroft Ltd), featuring the alphanumeric sequence NJE 502. The plate is constructed with a black-finished metal backing plate and cream-coloured, faceted three-dimensional characters secured with rivets. The NJE prefix denotes a registration from the Cambridge authority, typically dating from between 1953 and 1955. The plate is equipped with four mounting holes, each reinforced with a metal grommet. A small rectangular maker’s mark cartouche containing the letters ACE is visible at the bottom centre of both the front and reverse surfaces.
11 1/4 inches (W) x 8 1/2 inches (H).

Condition report:

The item shows significant signs of age and use. The black finish exhibits multiple chips and paint losses, particularly concentrated along the outer edges and surrounding the mounting holes. Surface scratches and abrasions are present across the face. The cream-coloured characters have developed a yellowed patina and show some embedded surface dirt. The reverse shows the exposed rivet heads and displays areas of surface oxidation, grime, and minor paint loss.
