Description
A large vintage presentation trophy shield of British origin, relating to the sport of darts. The piece comprises a shield-shaped solid oak backboard mounted with an ornate embossed white metal plaque. The plaque is decorated with high-relief scrolling foliate and acanthus leaf borders framing a central reserve. This reserve contains a raised miniature representation of a standard clock-pattern dartboard with numbers arranged in the traditional sequence. Engraved centrally below the dartboard is the title PAPER WORKS TROPHY. The item represents mid-20th-century industrial sporting culture and the history of works-based social clubs and sporting leagues.

Condition report:
The item is in used vintage condition. The wooden shield shows minor surface scuffs, scratches, and small nicks along the bevelled edges. The metal plaque exhibits significant wear to the silver or nickel plating, particularly in the central area where the underlying base metal is visible as a darker, dulled surface. Numerous fine surface scratches are present throughout the metal, along with areas of tarnish and oxidation within the recessed parts of the decorative scrollwork.
